More information arrives on Emily

Today we received updated information on Emily! We were told it was coming. This is information describing how she was found, and her development from 1 months to 7 months. We’re sure you don’t want to hear about her feeding schedule as of 5 months ago, so here are highlights.

Cen Fu Pei was abandoned the day after her birth at the gate of the Cenxi City orphanage, and discovered by a staff member (we have his name). There were clothes and a red envelope with her when she was found. No mention is made of any contents in the envelope, although a red envelope is significant since it means good luck in China, especially when money is added inside. Maybe her parents wished her luck? They took quite a risk delivering her right to the gate of an orphanage, when some baby girls are abandoned in bus stations.

Cen Fu Pei's discovery was immediately reported to the police, who conducted a search for the birth parents. None were found, and Cen Fu Pei remained at the orphanage, where she is today. At birth she was 19 inches long and weighed 6.3 pounds. The examining doctor pronounced her healthy.

As an infant, "Fu Pei" cried a lot unless she was sleeping, or held. When she was held her, she liked to look at her caretaker's face. At three to four months, Fu Pei was quieter. Sometimes after she was full, she liked to lie in bed and quietly look at the nanny coming and going. When her name was called, she could turn her head to look at the caller. When she was played with, she could return a lovely smile a lovely smile. When she lay on her stomach, she could raise her head. At five to six months when she was held to sit, she sat up straight and could support her upper body with her hands. She excitedly waved her hands and feet when she saw food. She liked to lie on the puzzle mat or in bed to look at her palms, and her five fingers stretched back and forth as if she was intensively counting.

By the time she was 7 months old, the staff described her as “extroverted…She is active and lovely. She is social and loves to smile.” Let’s hope she remembers that when she meets her mommy and daddy!!
